Summary
You will need to follow the same steps for
wallpapering a ceiling as for hanging standard
wallpaper plus the following important procedures:
1 About working at height
2 Preparing the paper
3 Setting guidlines on the ceiling
4 Hanging the paper
5 Papering around light fittings
Tools
Platform, paste, tape measure, string, pencil,
paste, brush, smoothing brush, blade.
Step 1 - About working at height
While working at height you must always be aware
of safety issues. The safest way to ensure you
can reach the ceiling properly is to
hire a platform.
Step 2 - Preparing the paper
The skills you need for papering the ceiling are
largely the same as those for papering a wall. If
you would like to know more, click on the icon below.
Obviously you have the disadvantage of working
against gravity. Start pasting and folding the paper
in a concertina fashion, with a width of 300mm.
Step 3 - Setting guidelines on the ceiling
Your first guideline should be set using a piece of
string attached to the top of the wall, parallel
with the wall nearest the main window. It should be
the width of the paper minus 13mm. Draw a pencil
guideline along the stringline using a straight edge.
Step 4 - Hanging the paper
Hang the first piece so it overlaps the edge of the
ceiling by 13mm.Use another roll to rest the paper on
and then apply the edge of the paper. Gradually unfold
the paper applying each section of 300mm at a time.
Smooth out any bubbles or creases.
Step 5 - Papering around light fittings
The method for papering round the ceiling mounted light
fitting is to cut two slits in the paper at right
angles and pull the fitting through. It is then
possible to trim around it.
